India and Pakistan, two arch-rivals, are finally set to meet to end the stalemate in cricket. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja is set to hold a meeting with officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in Dubai, according to Pakistan’s popular cricket website Cricket Pakistan.
According to media reports, the ICC meeting is scheduled to be held in Dubai from April 6 to April 10. Cricket policy makers of the two countries will sit in a meeting in the gap. Where new decisions are going to come about the future of Pak-India cricket.
Cricketers from other countries are always worried about the tour of Pakistan due to security issues. Cricket has been in exile in the country for a long time since the terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team bus. Although the image is slowly recovering, the PCB is once again in trouble after the New Zealand team returned home a few months ago citing security concerns.
Ramiz Raja is the new chairman of the board desperate to return to good days. They seem to have regained their confidence after the Australian team’s tour of Pakistan. The PCB wants to consolidate its position financially as well as its image, and to strengthen its position in the ICC.
Despite having a politically hostile relationship with India, Ramiz seeks the help of Sourav Ganguly’s board by exploiting the old ties on the cricket field. India has a big part in the idea of its new four-nation tournament. The other two teams proposed in the singles league T20 tournament are Australia and England.
So far this idea has not gained much popularity but Pakistan is adamant in their place. They are preparing all the paperwork for a formal proposal on the issue at a meeting in Dubai next week. The PCB thinks that it is possible to earn more than 5 thousand crore rupees annually from this tournament.
They are promising to distribute it among the participating teams as well as use it for the development of cricket in the ICC’s allied nations.
