India’s Test captain Rohit Sharma has been infected with the coronavirus. He will miss the Edgbaston Test against England starting on Friday (July 1). In his absence, pacer Jaspreet Bumrah will lead the team.

Meanwhile, after taking charge as the coach of Team India, the team is going to get the seventh captain in 6 months during Rahul Dravid’s tenure. Shikhar Dhawan was the captain when Dravid first coached the team. Then there are Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Rishav Pant and Hardik Pandya. This time Bumrah is going to write his name as the seventh captain.

In the history of the last 35 years, there is no precedent for India to lead a fast bowler. As he is going to record Jaspreet Bumrah. Kapil Dev was the last to lead India as a fast bowler. In 1986, he was relieved of his duties.

Talking about Bumrah, a BCCI official told Press Trust of India that Rohim Sharma was not in the match. His coroner’s result in PCR test is positive again. Our Vice Captain Lokesh Rahul is also not in the team. That is why Jaspreet Bumrah will lead India in this Test.

Meanwhile, Bumrah is set to become the 36th captain to lead India in Tests. He is set to become the sixth captain to lead India in Tests this year. The pacer has taken 123 wickets in 29 Tests so far.

“It’s a very big achievement,” Bumrah said after taking charge. It is a matter of great honor. Test cricket was like a dream to me when I started playing. Leading India in Tests is the greatest achievement of my career.

Meanwhile, the fifth Test match, which was postponed last year due to the spread of coronavirus in the Indian team, is starting today on a new schedule. Virat Kohli led India in the first four Tests of the series 2-1.
